ABOUT US

When you mention Dayton, OH you are met with conversations about a standard midwestern city for the working class, doing everyday things. When you mention Gem City, you are met with light, excitement, and eagerness towards the creativity that spills from its core. When founder NaAsiaha Simon first relocated to the city of Dayton post-grad, she fell in love with the heart of the city. For the last  4 years, she has taken that love and turned it into a lifestyle of service and enrichment for the community. Simon, a mental health advocate and champion for mental health awareness, says that it was her own personal battles with physical and mental health that sparked the idea for the museum.

“I created the Gem City Selfie Museum because I wanted to provide a space for people to have positive life-changing experiences and a space to heal using photography. When I was in my season of crisis, dealing with a brain tumor and a lot of emotional trauma, taking selfies helped me see myself and love that reflection of me, flawed and still beautiful,”.

NaAsiaha and the entire Gem City Selfie Museum collective want the people of Dayton to know that they are loved, appreciated, celebrated, and seen! What better way to commemorate that than with a selfie?
